What Does the following MRI Scan Report Indicate?

Hi I have the following and want to know what it all means. I am a 30 year old female.

After a lumber spine MRI it stated - at L5/S1 level there is a moderate to severe disc narrowing associate with type 1 Modic endplate change and minor anterior lipping. There is disc desiccation. There is 4mm retrolisthesis. Minimal posterior annular disc bulge is noted abutting the ventral surface of the thecal sac without significant central canal or lateral stenosis. Mild lateral disc osteophyte complexes are noted slightly encroaching exit formina resulting in mild foraminal stenosis without focal nerve root compression otherwise.

Hope you can help. Thank you

Hello welcome to HCM.

There is a disc between the vertebral bodies helps as a shock absorber effect, the disc contains maximum percentage of water, due to degenerative changes when the water content / hydration is lost the disc slips / bulges.

At the level of L5 -S1 there is annular / peripheral portion of the disc got bulged posteriorly and causing pressure effect on the spinal chord, pressure effect on the lateral canals where nerve passes through resulting in stenosis.

Few osteophytes are seen, and reduced disc space.
All above symptoms are degenerative due to age related or weight bearing working / positional abnormalities.

Treatment include exercises for back followed by physiotherapy. If does not work finally operative treatment. Good luck.
